Margaret Semillon 'Best in Show'

With the announcement of results at the 2010 Sydney International Wine Competition on the 20th February, our 2004 Margaret Barossa Semillon swept all wines before it winning three trophies, including ‘Best Wine of Competition.’
Both Peter & Margaret Lehmann were at the Presentation Lunch at the Shangri La Hotel in Sydney and Margaret was thrilled to accept the 'Joy Lake Memorial Perpetual Championship Trophy' for the second time in three years.
“It really is a great thrill for both Peter and I to be here this afternoon to collect the Joy Lake Memorial Trophy for the Best Wine of Competition, and I know that Andrew and all his winemaking team are overjoyed with the news as well. Barossa Semillon has always been the variety dear to my heart and having won this award for the second time in three years, yet again proves the point that Barossa Semillon is such a great food wine and worthy of being considered as one of Australia’s great white wine varietals,” said Margaret.
The 2004 ‘Margaret’ Barossa Semillon won a Blue Gold Medal was named in the Top 100 and recieved the following trophies;
- Schenker Australia Pty Ltd Perpetual Trophy ‘Best Medium Bodied Dry White Table Wine of Competition’
- The Wine Society Perpetual Trophy ‘Best White Table Wine of Competition’
- Joy Lake Memorial Perpetual Championship Trophy ‘Best Wine of Competition’
Andrew Wigan, PLW Chief Winemaker, was thrilled that Margaret accepted the trophies and awards. “To have won the Best Wine of Show at the Sydney International is a great accolade and to think our Margaret Semillon has scooped all, for the second time in three years is a huge buzz and it really does prove that the Barossa can produce great Semillon”.
It was an outstanding show for Peter Lehmann Wines with Blue Gold Medals also being awarded to the 2004 Wigan Eden Valley Riesling and 2008 Layers Red.
